McMinn County Timeline

The newest addition to the Museum is a timeline installation detailing an overview of McMinn County’s history through the late twentieth century. Located near the entrance, this exhibit is a great introduction to your tour of the Museum. From the early Cherokee settlements and their removal to the infamous Battle of Athens in 1946, this timeline highlights important moments and events in local, state, and national history.
Various artifacts and photographs accompany the detailed infographic that lines the main hallway of the Museum. Keep an eye out for key items from the collection including a medal from the Spanish-American War, a porcelain transferware platter owned by Joseph McMinn, and a fife belonging to a Civil War soldier.
